Welcome Cannabis is collaborating with ESN to provide Feed & Weed: hot meals and cannabis for harm reduction for encampment residents.
With Toronto in the midst of its second lockdown, peak COVID-19 case numbers continue to rise. Shelters and respite centres are over crowded and most often only offer protection from the cold in congregate settings, with high risk for spreading the virus.
The city’s current data states that more than 6,000 people already use its shelter services. Encampments have become the only viable option for many.
In addition to a housing crisis, Toronto is experiencing a growing opioid crisis which is exacerbated by the pandemic and the threat of precarious living that so many experience.
Opioid related deaths have increased by almost 40% since the start of the pandemic, influenced by insufficient harm reduction services available within alternative housing, creating lethal situations for people who use drugs.
Welcome Cannabis is working with the Encampment Support Network (ESN) to help provide FEED & WEED relief to Encampment residences. We are collecting monetary donations and non-perishable goods to create hot meals and provide for clean and safe cannabis use as a harm reduction measure.
With the help of our generous community we will be making our first FEED & WEED drop on January 29, 2021 with another drop to follow in February.
